Established in 2016, French company Molequin is laser-focused on achieving the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. As part of this mission, the company's production process is (and always will be) based entirely in France, a country steeped in a history of producing some of the finest leather goods in the world.
Maintaining a regional perspective enables Molequin to draw on a pool of the best local tanneries, many of which employ artisanal skills cultivated over generations. Molequin has made it part of its ethos to be familiar with every link in its supply chain; its skins are sourced exclusively from French farms that conform to strict global industry standards governing ethical practices and sustainability.
The contrast that the darker leather offers against the softness of the lighter-colored stitching and edges is what makes Molequin's Two Tone straps so special. The effect is almost monotone in appearance, but with a wonderful twist.
Molequin's Midnight Black Two Tone strap is constructed from Saffiano leather. Introduced by designer Mario Prada in 1913, Saffiano leather is a full-grain calfskin with a distinctive crosshatch texture and a durable surface that is ideal for watch straps. Saffiano leather will continue to soften with time and use, while retaining its shape and color.
All of our Molequin straps are integrated with handy quick-release spring bars. Prefer to use your own spring bars? Quick-release bars are easy to remove: simply slide the lever as far as you can to the left, then gently bend back the strap corner until the bar emerges from the slot.

Lug/Buckle Taper Many straps taper in width toward the buckle. This is an important measurement if you plan to swap out the buckle or add a deployant clasp. Your buckle size matches the width at the BUCKLE end of the strap, not the lug end.

This purchase was my first experience with Molequin brand straps. A ready made domestic option for saffiano straps was a very welcome change as all of my previous saffiano straps have been made to order, with turnaround times of 3-4 weeks. The Caramel colored strap that I received was most similar to a saffiano strap that I had previously purchased from Monstraps. In my opinion, the Molequin saffiano leather is not quite on par with the saffiano straps that I've received from Veblenist and Delugs. The convenience of being able to purchase an in-stock strap rather than a made to order strap basically nullifies any difference in quality though. I hope that Mike continues to expand the Molequin line of straps in his store as it's a very welcome addition.
