I am very happy with the Hirsch James performance leather band. It is made of high quality leather. The reason I call it a specialty band is the rubber inner layer that resists and channels sweat from the outer leather. My experience with ordinary leather bands is that over time, the leather wears from moisture making the leather rough and aged. I generally had to replace the bands because of this about every 2 years. I have been wearing this band while playing tennis and it does not seem to be affected by moisture/sweat like my other bands. I have had it for 3 months and it looks great! Time will tell how durable and sweat resistant it is. I think it will outlast my other bands that I have had. It cost about 2 times the other ones. Is it worth it? I think so. If you have the money and you want a leather band that will resist moisture from sweat, then I highly recommend you check this band out. I am using this strap with my Tudor chronograph and it looks great. The quality of the strap is superb, very well constructed, extremely conformable. I have used it under water during swimming with no problems at all. It repels water, so it comes out dry. It is not inexpensive, but worth the price, this is a top level strap that will last a long time. The color is dark brown, quite dark and elegant.
Best watch band I've ever purchased. Mike was a lot of help with getting me the correct size. I picked this up for my Seiko Alpinist SPB-507, green and gold dial, very sharp.
These Hirsch performance straps are incredible quality. They are not cheap straps, but the quality truly makes it worth the money. I've gone swimming with these multiple times and they hold up perfectly. With the rubber backing the strap also does not wear out like a normal leather strap would with taking it on and off on a daily basis. I would recommend these straps 100%.
My Hirsch James strap is very well-made and fits my 6 1/2 inch wrist perfectly. I bought the shorter version (110/70), and I appreciate having that option. The Golden Brown version is beautiful, and I love the water-resistant leather and the rubber backing. It is a premium product, but this strap will last a long time and will look great on almost any watch I have. I also have the black version, and it has the same top notch qualities.

I wanted a high performance, easy wearing strap for my Speedmaster (the new daily driver) and the Hirsch strap has been great so far. I really love the quick release spring bars. Second order from Holben’s and third Hersch strap. Found the James performance strap in black to be of very high quality and ordered a second one in gold brown.

More costly than your avg. leather and/or rubber watch strap, but you may find it worthwhile as it should last quite a while. It's waterproof rubber with a thin calf skin outer layer.
